Why Barcelona?

I've had a special place in my heart for Spain since my very first international trip in high school. It was a chaperoned trip, with 3 destinations for our young minds. Madrid, Toledo, Seville. Churches, Bull fighting. Beaches. Soccer.

It was also the first time I saw flamenco dance. There is something tribal in the art form. The passion and drama gripped my 18 year old self. Having grown up around Indian dance form, the foot stomping rang familiar. The blood red of their outfits called to me, with the high black mantle resting on their heads.

I listened to the acoustic guitar of the Gypsy Kings on CD and on repeat as our bus wound through the Spanish mountains. Each peak looked like a wound-up leavened cinnamon roll. The blue mountains of Pennsylvania, where I grew up, didn't look like this.

Since that trip in 1991, I have returned to Spain 3 times. This December I return for trip No. 4.

I can't wait for you to experience this exclusive three day, two night experience I have created for you. You take care of flight. I take care of everything once you are here.

Day 1

Morning:

CHECK INTO SERRAS HOTEL AND SETTLE IN

European flights traditionally arrive in the morning hours. The car service will bring you from the airport to the Serras Hotel. Pablo Picasso’s former studio turned into boutique hotel. I love it because its located in, what to me, is Barcelona. Right in the heart of the Barrio Gótico. It's also steps from the Soho House Barcelona, where we will do our 3 strategy sprints.

Address

Pg. de Colom, 9, 08002 Barcelona, Spain

SOHO HOUSE BARCELONA

Lunch reservation for a party of 2

After lunch, we do your first 90 minute strategy sprint.

Evening:

DINNER, ALKIMIA

Despite its Michelin-starred status, Alkimia has remained somewhat under the radar.

The restaurant can be tricky enough to find: in a street dominated by knock-off electronics stores, it is up a flight of stairs in what appears to be a residential building. It is in fact the old Moritz beer factory, and Alkimia itself is set in the fabulous modernist apartment that used to house the owner's family. Its an 11 minute Uber ride or 20 minute walk

Chef Jordi Vila pays tribute to Catalan classics like esqueixadas (a cold salad usually made from salt cod) and suquet (seafood stew) – albeit in an elevated, contemporary format, while his “wild” tasting menu places locally caught wild game front and center. Menu here.

Afternoon:

LUNCH

There are some pockets of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter that breathe magic and history. The old Jewish neighborhood, El Call, does just that. We head to La Alcoba Azul, a little tapas bar specializing in tostas. These thick slices of countryside bread, slathered with anything from sobrassada to roasted vegetables. It’s one of the simplest, most authentic places to eat in the Gothic Quarter.

Evening:

AIRE BATHS BARCELONA

Early evening, we head to a restored historic building surrounded by candles and inspired by ancient civilizations.  90 minutes of thermal baths with a scrub, face mask and refreshing drink while you relax in baths at different temperatures.

Lunch

GAUDI

What is a visit to Barcelona without seeing Gaudi's works? We do a walking tour to see the work of the city's most important architect, Antoni Gaudí, known as the master of Catalan modernism, and more colorfully, "God's Architect." In the company of an expert architect, we’ll visit some of Gaudí's most important sites, including the Casa Batlló (with skip-the-line tickets), and contextualize his work within the history of the city and his contemporaries. We can do this on our own too, and dip into a place for lunch on the way.

5 Av. Gustave Eiffel, 75007 Paris, France
